In this class from resident artist Christopher Slaymaker we will learn about the flow state, what it is, why we all love it, and how it applies to visual art / our passions or area of expertise/ and our everyday lives. Each class will start with a lecture on one aspect of the flow state relative to visual art, followed by an exercise designed to trigger FLOW. After a short break, we will reconvene for 1.5 hours of figure drawing with a live model. Read below for information about each class.

Amalgamation of the Fundamentals of Drawing: Revisiting the Elements of Art - Line, Shape, Value, Form, Texture and Space. Exercise: Drawing negative space. Followed by 1.5 hour life drawing class.

Class FIVE, December 14:
Speed Drawing: Draw so fast that the analytical judgmental mind can't keep up. Break through to the other side of creative flow, George Pratt's figure drawing class, surrendering the need to make a good drawing, the right amount of stress triggers flow, trusting your intuition. Followed by 2 hour life drawing class.
Class SIX, December 21:
Discussion, Summary and Recap of the Flow State: how we can apply it to our daily lives. Surprise exercise. Followed by 1.5 hour life drawing class.
THE FLOW STATE: According to positive psychology: Flow, also know as being 'in the zone' among various other colloquialisms, is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.
