Laura Thompson is a local artist and art teacher. She graduated from JMU with a BFA in Graphic Design and her art education license in 2003, and has taught art in elementary and middle schools in the Shenandoah Valley since 2004.  In 2014, she graduated with her master’s in art education from JMU, officially becoming a “Double Duke.” She has taught art classes to both children and adults, and loves sharing her skills and knowledge with others. Most recently, she has been painting with oils, though she also enjoys creating mixed-media artworks, primarily with graphite and watercolor. She is actively participating in shows, and feels it is critical for her personal growth that she continues creating art. She believes it is important for every person to incorporate art into their life in some way, whether through crafting, experimenting, DIYing, or just appreciating it.
