* HomeSchool Tuesdays:  This course is taught by veteran art teacher Valerie Smith. Using over 19 years experience in the public schools as well as private enrichment programs, Valerie creates a vibrant classroom that explores various media and themes. Each semester, students will have the opportunity to work with techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and beyond. Each lesson is created to meet the specific needs of both younger and older students and differentiated for the classroom's various developmental and experiential levels. This semester, the Tuesday class offers 12 sessions and is offered side by side our 4 & 5 year old course, allowing parents to send more kiddos at the same time!

** HomeSchool Tuesdays - Art Explorations:  Start engaging your little one’s senses! Students will learn key skills such as how to follow directions, develop their thinking skills, and gain increased fine motor skills by taking this course. Your kiddos will have fun learning about and creating their very own artwork. During this class, we will use our imaginations to think up new creations while observing the world around us. This class is taught by our new favorite teacher, Jaynie Smith! A 2017 JMU grad, Jaynie has over 4 years of experience teaching children at summer camps. She was the coordinator for an outdoors camp in Richmond and has taught with Larkin Arts since June 2018. Jaynie enjoys teaching young individuals new techniques and using a range of materials. She finds it very rewarding to see children have that AH-HA! moment and grasp a new concept for the very first time.

*** HomeSchool Wednesdays:  This class offers 9 sessions of longer class time, is for ages 6-14 and will be split into two age groups, allowing for more developmentally focused lessons. Valerie Smith & Jaynie Smith will each teach one section and may switch groups throughout the semester. During these classes, students will learn key concepts in art and art history to successfully create and apply those skills to their own form of meaning making in their art. Again, students will have the opportunity to work with techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and beyond as well as connect to elements of downtown Harrisonburg. This class may be taken in addition to Option 4 to double your Spring Semester Art!
